THE PROCESS:

1. In your group, assign research duties as follows:
-- two people on Shakespeare's life
-- two people on the plays
--one or two people on Elizabethan England, the Globe Theatre, and what it was like to be an actor in Shakespeare's day

COMPLETION OF THIS STEP:
You will turn in at least one page of research notes (per individual) in your Starr Locker member folder. Each group will present specific findings: see SCAVENGER HUNT for the questions your group must answer.

After research presentations, you will have a few days to prepare the second step, which includes the following:

2a. As a group, select ONE play you would like to promote to Ms. Perloff. Ask yourself three questions:
-- Why this play?
-- Why this play at this time?
-- Why this play at this time for this audience? (Think larger Bay Area theatre-going audience, not just Jordan M.S.)

2b. Research your chosen play. You will need to report on the performance history of the play, give a synopsis of the plot, and perform a short scene, so locate a copy of the text online and copy your scene into a Word document and store it in your Group Folder.

2c. Practice your scene and presentation. If the scene is only for two, then the other group members will do the other aspects of the presentation. Remember to keep it lively and interesting! You could do a PowerPoint sequence to augment your presentation if you want.

COMPLETION OF THIS STEP:
Present your scene and promotion of your chosen play. Don't be shy about selling the wonderful points of the play you think we should do!

AS THE FINAL STEP OF THIS PROCESS,
you will vote with the rest of the class on the play you want to work on based on the presentations. We will then spend a few weeks in class preparing sequential scenes from the chosen play for performance in invitational assemblies.
