Clay shoes are another big favorite in Art 1A. This is a complex, involved project. Students learn the basics of clay slab and coil construction as they undertake making a replica of a shoe. We also look at Pop Art from the 60s, when artists such as Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, and Marisol began to use common everyday objects as the subject matter for their art. Students study their shoes closely, including a 2-day intensive drawing session (gallery link here) in which they carefully examine their shoe and draw it in detail from multiple perspectives. .
