Sunflower

The Sunflower Painting Project is a favorite at Jordan. Students study the work of two turn-of-the-century artists: Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh They were prominent in two of the major art styles of that era: Impressionism and Expressionism.
After looking at the work
of these two artists, and viewing a demonstration of various painting
styles and techniques, students first undertake a series of practice
sketches of sunflowers, using both drawings and live flower arrangements
as models. Then they make a large scale painting in tempera, choosing
a color scheme and carefully incorporating "double-loading" brushwork,
sponge textures, and other specific techniques. |
