We
did it last year ... we can do it again this year!!
Jordan
Middle
School is collecting 1000 books to send to Okyereso Methodist Primary & JHS Library in Ghana. This school serves about 460 students and is in the Eastern region of Ghana. Besides books, they also appreciate puzzles, flash cards, educational games in good condition and stationary. And ........ we are collecting another 1000 books for Zomba Islamic Library, a community library in Malawi. Our
goal is to collect 2,000 preschool - 8th grade books and teacher
resource materials for these schools.
The book drive starts on Feb
25th with the opening of the Buy One Get One Book Fair in the library.
The school in Ghana wants books with preschool to 4th grade reading level. The school in Malawi wants preschool to 8th grade reading level.
What kind of books to donate?
* books about universal subjects,
* classics,
* science and reference.
* new books or gently used
books,
* preferably paperbacks, because of shipping costs and the
African termites who love hardback books!
What kind of books NOT to donate?
* books about our teen culture (Clique, Wimpy Kid, etc )
* books about religion, holidays, American celebrations
Classrooms
collecting books.
* 6th grade: Levy, Balbuena, Fletcher, Clarke, Lee, Misset/Cardenas, Moin, Enos
* 7th grade: Doran (Olive team), Diven/Student Council
* 8th grade: Sano, Carlisle, Goldman Advisory, Pappas - Leadership
If your student's class is not collecting, just bring books to the library.
We will be holding a garage sale on April 20 to raise the money
for shipping. We need to ship the books to New Orleans
- $200 per school - and $300 to ALP for the shipping from New
Orleans to Africa. So, we need to raise approximately $700.
