Immersion
Goals of the Spanish Immersion Program in middle school are
for students to:
~ develop and grow their proficiency in the Spanish language through
listening, speaking, reading, writing, and understanding language structure,
~read Spanish language literature,
~appreciate cultural diversity,
~prepare for upper level high school Spanish classes, and
~be ready to meet the challenges of a global society.
In the sixth grade, Spanish Immersion is offered as a core class in
language arts and social studies. Students cover the same material as
all Jordan sixth grade classes, however, most of the class is taught
in Spanish. It is a full year class.
In the seventh and eighth grades, Spanish Immersion classes are offered
as electives. For both grades, Spanish Immersion is selected as one
of your child's two elective choices, and is a full-year course. Spanish
Immersion electives are a part of the World Languages grouping.
Spanish Immersion Grade 6 - Core Subjects
Social Studies is 100% in Spanish, and Language Arts is 50% in Spanish.
Emphasis is on oral, reading and writing skills, language structure,
and vocabulary development.
Grade 6 Enrollment: Appropriate for students entering from immersion
programs, and/or new students with strong Spanish language and literacy
skills.

Spanish Immersion A (7th grade) - Elective
Spanish Immersion B (8th grade) - Elective
The goal of these courses is to improve proficiency in Spanish speaking,
reading and writing through a variety of offerings including literature,
writing projects, skits, movies and more. It is designed to review vocabulary
and language structures covered in introductory and intermediate high
school Spanish classes. Spanish Immersion A and B classes are a two-year
sequence, and serve to prepare students to enter advanced high school
Spanish classes.
Grade 7/8 Enrollment: Appropriate for students continuing from Spanish
Immersion classes; and/or new students with strong Spanish language
skills. New students: see grade 7 teacher for skills assessment.
