Spanish Immersion

Goals of the Spanish Immersion Program in middle school are for students to:
~ develop and grow their proficiency in the Spanish language through listening, speaking, reading, writing, and understanding language structure,
~read Spanish language literature,
~appreciate cultural diversity,
~prepare for upper level high school Spanish classes, and
~be ready to meet the challenges of a global society.

In the sixth grade, Spanish Immersion is offered as a core class in language arts and social studies. Students cover the same material as all Jordan sixth grade classes, however, most of the class is taught in Spanish. It is a full year class.

In the seventh and eighth grades, Spanish Immersion classes are offered as electives. For both grades, Spanish Immersion is selected as one of your child's two elective choices, and is a full-year course. Spanish Immersion electives are a part of the World Languages grouping.

Spanish Immersion Grade 6 - Core Subjects
Social Studies is 100% in Spanish, and Language Arts is 50% in Spanish. Emphasis is on oral, reading and writing skills, language structure, and vocabulary development.

Grade 6 Enrollment: Appropriate for students entering from immersion programs, and/or new students with strong Spanish language and literacy skills.
New students: see grade 6 teacher for skills assessment.

Spanish Immersion A (7th grade) - Elective

Spanish Immersion A and B classes are a two-year sequence, and serve to prepare students to enter advanced high school Spanish classes.
