JORDAN DAZE - A Middle School Soap Opera

STORYBOARDING

A storyboard is a map of your video in pictures. It provides a key to
the visual narrative, and allows you to make sure that there are no
gaps or contradictions in your story before you start taping. Any
professional in film, television, or commercials uses storyboarding
to lay out what the final product will look and sound like.

For your video, your group will need to make a simple
storyboard, using the materials the instructor gives you:

- one piece posterboard
- 7-20 squares of paper
- colored pencils

Use a paper square to draw a small image of one or more of the
moments in each scene of your video. Arrange them sequentially
on the posterboard, and check to make sure that all the high points
of your script are represented. Run it by the instructor before you
glue the squares to the posterboard.. Use an ink pen or marker
to write key words, phrases, or dialogue above and around the
squares to provide narrative detail. Members of your
group will present your storyboard to the rest of the class.

Your storyboard will be graded on the following parameters:

- clarity of story
- quality of presentation, both visual and oral
- understanding of genre of melodrama

While some members of your group are working on the
storyboard, other members might be working alongside,
typing up the script...Go to the next page to find out about
how to create your script!
