WEB DESIGN

WEB DESIGN

This is a project-based class where positive, self-motivated students will learn real world technology connections through collaboration and group work. Students analyze what makes a good web page, then use their new knowledge to create web pages using the latest multimedia design programs, such as Dreamweaver MX, Adobe PhotoShop, Flash MX, and iMovie. The final project is designed by a group and may include embedding games in a multiple-page website with music and animation.

TECHNICAL COMPONENTS

   • Basic and Advanced HTML Coding
   • Web page development with Dreamweaver MX
   • Visual Design Using Principles of Art, Image Creation
      Manipulation and Image Mapping
   • MacroMedia's Flash and Dreamweaver
   • Adobe Photoshop
   • Management and Directory Structures

PROJECT PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION

Students, individually and in teams, will develop project ideas, pitch them to the class, and create a specific project plan complete with estimated completion dates. Students will work toward project completion and launch, setting up weekly goals.

EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT

Both individual and team projects will be evaluated based on an agreed upon rubric. The same set of descriptors will be used throughout the term to focus on certain web design principles.

ASSIGNMENTS:

1. Students will complete a series of tutorials designed to familiarize them with HTML coding, including building a basic webpage, expanding on it with images and links, and then learning to create tables of various sizes.

2. The Core Content Website introduces the student to working in DreamWeaver. Taking a topic of their choice from their core classwork, students build a multiple page website that includes a Home Page, several Content Pages, a Quiz and a Credits page. Students build on their skills with images, embedded music, Quicktime Movies, and how to create a template to develop consistency throughout the site.

3. The Final Project is done in collaboration with other students, and may take the form of a game embedded in a multiple-page site, or another website devoted to a topic of choice.
