SIXTH GRADE EXPLORATORY WHEEL
This abbreviated
six week course gives students a chance to experience
a variety of computer programs and create projects
so that they can better choose their electives for 7th and
8th grade. Students will learn basic computing skills
ranging
from keyboarding, working with word processing to programming.
Projects include graphics, animations
and web page design. A consistent favorite is a short animated "movie" with
original art. The cycle ends with lessons on using the Internet
as a resource tool, HTML coding and web
page design.
During the first week you
will begin by practicing typing skills and basic word
processing. You will be working on increasing your
typing skills by spending 10 minutes at the beginning
of each period practicing basic keyboarding skills.
Your goal is 25/95/10*.
If you already have good keyboarding skills and you
can achieve a typing rate of 35/95/10 on
three consecutive tests you will not need to take a
test every week.
* That is 25 words per
minute, with 95% accuracy, in a 10 minute time period.
You will be having a test the first day of each week
to help you measure your progress.
Beginning the first week
of class you will be working on three Word
Processing projects as well as practicing
basic typing skills. This includes
the Dictionary of Macintosh Terms and two business
letters.
For the second week of
class you will be working on a Graphics project, learning to use Adobe PhotoShop.
During the third and fourth
weeks of class you will be working on two Animation
projects, otherwise known as The Walking Guy
and Picnic Story
During the fifth week
of class, you will be working on the Internet
Research project.
The last project of the
computer cycle will be the Web
Page Design project.
