The sixth grade program focuses on the history and geography of ancient civilizations. Students will realize the value of ancient history by connecting the past to present ideas and problems. A very interactive, hands-on, multi-sensory approach will be utilized in teaching these concepts. The units of study begin in Africa with the Australopithecines four million years ago.

Units taught in 6th grade include:

  • Linking Past to Present (Prehistory & Archaeology)
  • Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Israel
  • Ancient China
  • Ancient Greece
  • The Rise of Ancient Rome

Instruction in 6th grade focuses on development of the following learning competencies:

  • Connecting the contribution of the ancient societies, fine arts, humanities, beliefs, religion and government to present day culture and society.
  • Examining and comparing the problems of ancient civilizations to today's global society.
  • Mapping the human and physical features of the ancient civilizations.
