Cave Paintings

Cave paintings are one of the oldest methods of art. It uses very dark and earth tone colors. It uses very thick to very thin lines. The shapes are sometimes very rigid, such as the horns of animals. There are also smooth lines. Such as the belly of an animal, or the head of an animal. The shapes of the cave paintings are very unique and different from one another because they are made by many different people, unlike one artist's paintings. There are a lot of lines used to symbolize different parts of an animal or a special part of a story. The value of most cave paintings is very dark, because of the colors they use. Cave paintings are painted on cave walls, which are generally rough and rigid. The space is evenly spread out in most cave paintings. The negative space is usually between figures. The volume of cave paintings vary according to its size. Most of the cave paintings are well balanced, but because the cave paintings may be painted on the same wall as others it is hard to know where one painting ends and another starts. There is not much of a contrast in cave paintings because the paintings are usually painted in the same color. All together cave paintings contain a lot of variety, but an individual picture contains the same colors and the same kinds of shapes. There is not much repetition in cave paintings because outside of the individual figure, no picture is the same. The emphasis of most cave paintings are the important part of an animal, such as the head, or the main part of a message, such as a spear.I think there is a lot of movement in cave paintings because the characters are usually doing something or moving.
