This sculpture, called "Mozart 1" was created using assemblage by Kenneth Snelson. Kenneth was born in the USA in Pendleton Oregon before World War II. He graduated from the University of Oregon, and during World War II he signed up to serve in the Navy. Later, he went to Black Mountain College. When he was there he encountered some teachers that were also philosophers. The influence of one of these philosophers gave him a fascination for complex geometric shapes. This is when his career in sculpting began. One of his works, "Mozart 1" looks like it was suspended in mid air with hardly anything holding it up, while physics students that looked at is determined that the sculpture was extremely stable. It was made of aluminum and stainless steel. It has been stated that Kenneth's art studio looks more like a science lab than a place of artistic birth! Now, his works are in many different and important museums. Among these are the New York Museum of Modern Art, The Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, and the Hirshhorn Museum.
