Willem De Kooning was a famous American painter who was born in the Netherlands in 1904. In 1926, he immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City. In New York City he worked on the Federal Arts Projection 1935. Soon after, he found an interest in abstraction and began to experiment with it in 1928. In the 1940's he began to paint abstractly when another famous painter, Arshile Gorky, influenced him. Willem De Kooning, while painting abstractly became a leader of abstract expressionism. One of his famous sculptures as you know was the "Standing Figure". Right Now it is being portrayed in Stanford. "Woman I", one of De Kooning's artworks was put in the Museum of Modern Art, New York City. The famous and well known artist painted from nonfigurative work to abstract art.
