Mandarin Ducks in the Snow
Utagawa Hiroshige

Mandarin Ducks in the Snow is drawn by a Japanese artist, Utagawa Hiroshige.  I chose this drawing because I thought the drawing's colors were distinguished. Although such colors as orange, black, brown, and yellow are usually considered dull,  the painter managed to make them a beautiful amalgamation of colors.  The drawing looks like it takes place in the fall, despite the fact that the season is winter and it is snowing.  The texture of the orange colors makes you feel calm and relaxed, like a calm tropical breeze. The ducks look three dimensional in a curious and unrealistic way.
