Wheat and Cypresses
Vincent van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh uses mainly cool colors to create "Wheat and Cypresses". This creates a peaceful mood because it isn’t too bright. The tree is definitely a prominent shape in the painting. A bush on the left side of the scene mimics the tree, creating balance in the painting. The sky is very harmonious because the colors white and blue are repeated over and over, and are integrated subtly. Also, the shapes are similar; all the clouds have soft curves and give a peaceful feeling.
The style of this piece is expressionism. Vincent van Gogh was an expressionistic painter.  Most of his paintings, including "Starry Starry Night" are expressionistic.
My eye moves around this pieced of art in the following way. First, I look at the tree. Next, my eye travels to the sky, and then to the little bush. After that my eye surveys the ground. All in all, the painting "Wheat and Cypresses" would be one that I would put in my living room because of its peaceful qualities.
