Cafe Terrace by Vincent van Gogh
I chose this picture because of the brightness of the night sky and how the night sky compliments the cafe terrace on a warm night.  The colors in this painting are lively and the texture of this painting makes me have a feeling of calmness. The shapes are plain and simple and not interrupted by too many busy people like in the painting by Beraud. Some lines are strait, and the others curve giving lots of variety to the painting. There is positive space and negative space through out the painting. The negative space is in the starry night sky and the positive space is on the ground. The dark colors in the sky make your eyes focus on the bright yellow cafe terrace. This painting is very expressionistic in the style as are many of Vincent van Gogh's work.
