The Dessert Tray
by Wayne Thiebaud

I chose the "Dessert Tray" because it is an interesting painting. In this painting there is a lot of line, which is how your eye moves around the painting. Your eyes start at the tall milkshake and move around the platter. This painting also uses forms like the slice of cake is a cube and the milk shake is a cylinder.

The three dimensional shapes in this painting are really what makes it come alive. All the desserts are painted with a distinct style of Thiebaud's "New Realism" with blue colors for shadows so they all look three dimensional. There is also a lot of emphasis on the tall milkshake and other desserts like the white swirly meringue cookie that expresses the swirls.
