This is a short timeline:
1895-Wilhelm Roentgen finds x-rays
1898-Radium and polonium, the radioactive elements, are discovered by Marie
Curie
1938-Otto Hahn and Fritz Strassman, two german scientists, demonstrate nuclear
fission
1942-The Mahattan Project is formed to create the Atomic bomb without the
Germans knowing
1945-The U.S drops the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, not long after
Japan surrenders ending World War II
1946-The Atomic Energy Act establishes the Atomic Energy Commition, which
replaces the Manhattan Project on December 31,1946
1949-Soviets develop their own Atomic bomb
1952-Atomic Energy Commition created the first Hydrogen bomb
1953-Soviets create their own Hydrogen bomb
1962-The U.S discovers Soviets are hiding missiles in Cuba. For 13 days it
was a dangerous time because the U.S and the Soviets were threatening to launch
missiles at each other
1986-Soviet president calls for elimination all nuclear weapons by the year
2000
1991-Soviet Union falls and becomes Russia and many other countries
Present-U.N weapon inspectors are seaching Iraq for "Weapons of mass destruction"
and U.N weapons inspectors have been thrown out of North Korea. People in South
Korea and Japan are scared of war with North Korea.
